BELLE from BingoNet
Q1: Tell us a little bit about you.
I've now retired from another life as an office manager, hence my love to chat with people. I like to read, shop and of course, play bingo. Not necessarily in that order. lol
Q2: How long have you been a Chat Host?
I have been a chat since 2001.
Q3: How did you become a Chat Host?
I was a player at BingoNet and thought that I would really like to work with the company as a chat host, so submitted my résumé, and it was accepted!
Q4: What do you like most about the job?
The chance to host tournaments and chat with the players and share their news and laughter. I also work with a wonderful group of ladies, that makes it a great place to work. They have become great friends as well as co-workers.
Q5: What is the worst part of the job?
Losing a member that passes away. Next to that is having to send a warning to someone that has broken our rules, as BingoNet are a family oriented site and want to keep it that way.
Q6: Which are your favorite chat room games?
I oversee a group of teams similar to a league. It is called Team Bingo. We play for ‘standings’ for the week and month. It’s great fun for all involved. Lots of cheering for their team members to ‘get a win’. I also enjoy the games where the ‘neighbour’ of the winner also receives the same prize bonus as the game winner.
Q7: What is the funniest thing that has ever happened whilst you have been in a chat room?
So many, but probably the funniest one for me was a long time ago when we could change our usernames. If you didn’t use the correct amount of letters, you would show in the chat as ‘anon’. I was a helper to the CL at that time and part of my job was to notice the anons in the room and tell them to exit and get a proper name. I had company at my house and accidently booted myself out of the room. My company was talking to me so I didn’t notice what I had typed in as my username, so I came into the room as ‘anon’. On seeing this, I starting to tell ‘anon’ to go out and get a proper name (this was me I was talking to, but didn’t realize it). Getting no response from ‘anon’, I was becoming very flustered, until finally my CL took pity on me and pointed out to me that I was arguing with myself. I laughed so hard, I then forgot my password and couldn’t get back in until I had looked it up on my original welcome email. I'm teased about that even now, 9 years later.
Q8: What makes a good Chat Host?
You must like people, be friendly, sympathetic when necessary, realize that all people are not the same and some do have bad days, and don’t take things personal. You definitely need to have an understanding of the game you may be hosting, how it works, and a few hints of how to fix minor problems someone might be having. Most of all, you should have the ability to laugh, even if it’s at yourself when you make an error.
Q9: How would you like to see online bingo (as a whole) develop?
I would like to see online bingo continue to grow at the rate that it has in recent years.
Q10: Any other comments that you'd like to add about being a Chat Host?
Because I came into the bingo world at a later age than some, I have had various jobs in the past. I have to say that being a Chat Host has been one of the most rewarding jobs I have ever had. It has got me through some very tough personal losses in my life, and I thank all BingoNet members for that. I can consider most of them to be a friend, and I would recommend being a Chat Host to anyone that might be considering it. I think you would find it a very rewarding experience. I enjoy each and every day!
All the team here at CMOTY would like to say a big 'TY' to BELLE.
