webDebbi from IBV
Q1: Tell us a little bit about you.
I live in Beautiful SuperNatural BC, Canada with my three cats, Simba, Riley and Ninja. I've been a pre-school teacher, an office manager and now I'm the Customer Service Manager for IBV, which offers online bingo and slots. I'm a Capricorn, I read Tarot and follow whatever teachings I'm inclined to at the moment. I have a huge collection of books, movies and games and I'm never bored!
Q2: How long have you been a Chat Host?
I've been a Chat Host for nearly a year now since December 9, 2002.
Q3: How did you become a Chat Host?
Well, believe it or not, a job club sent me for the position! I was surprised to see such a job advertised and, funnily enough, when it was offered, I had to take it due to the rules of the job club. I thought it would be temporary, but it grew on me quickly!
Q4: What do you like most about the job?
I get to go online every day and chat to a variety of people about this, that and anything, while giving out free and earned money! My favorite part of the job is that I'm the cashout lady and I get to give the payouts!
Q5: What is the worst part of the job?
To be honest, dealing with people who are out to de-fraud us. It's happened in the past and I'm tireless in my efforts to ensure we are always searching these people out. Since I've hosted an online chat room before, albeit not for bingo, I am quite good at sniffing out people like this.
Q6: Which are your favorite chat room games?
Two to Tango! Hands down that's my favorite. Players pick 2 numbers off the gameboard and if theirs light up first, they have to type the word TANGO in chat to win free money. It involves the players rather than just giving them money and that's what I like to see.
Q7: What is the funniest thing that has ever happened whilst you have been in a chat room?
We have so many good times, it would be hard to pick! There was one day when there were three of us Hosts there and all three answering the same questions, one after the other so every player got three answers to every question! We were so intent on getting the answers out fast that we weren't looking at each other's answers!
Q8: What makes a good Chat Host?
A good Chat Host needs patience, a sense of humor, patience, initiative, patience, a willing ear, patience, a ready hand, patience and, did I mention, lots of patience? Through experience, I've found that not everyone can just step into a room and be a Chat Host effectively and not every Bingo player is right for the job. Some of our Hosts have never played Bingo yet they make great roomies!
Q9: How would you like to see online bingo (as a whole) develop?
I'd like to see the government step back from trying to stop online bingo and gambling. Between them, the banks, the credit card companies and now Western Union, it's difficult for players to play the game they love. Our roomies are much happier coming online to play rather than going out to a hall and I think we provide a good service where lonely people can bond with others. If I could see one thing happen for online Bingo, it would be that it not be tossed in with other gambling and tossed aside.
Q10: Any other comments that you'd like to add about being a Chat Host?
When I first got this job, I considered it temporary, but I gave it my all, trying to go over and above what was expected of me. Nearly 12 months later, I'm still here, still enjoying it and looking forward to changes coming up. I no longer consider this just a temporary job and I would heartily recommend it to people. It's great work and fun if you can find it! By the way, I DO read the forums here and see the people who are looking. This is a great place to let us know you're looking!
