VERA from BingoNet
Q1: Tell us a little bit about you.
I reside in Canaduh, very close to the Hot Air Capital of Ottawa in The Great White North, eh, ya hosers...home of the Ottawa Senators, the Molson Canadian, eh? And poutine and Nanaimo bars, kilometers, liters, and the Celsius scale of cold. The true joy in my life is my two grandsons. My favorite activity naturally is bingo, lol, followed by reading.
Q2: How long have you been a Chat Host?
I've been doing this job for about 3 years.
Q3: How did you become a Chat Host?
I started out as a player at BugleBingo (one of the 3 BingoNet sites), and just happened to be in the right place at the right time. The sites were growing, and they needed someone with technical expertise.
Q4: What do you like most about the job?
The players. Without them, there would be no job. They are fantastic. You become a part of the community, almost like a family atmosphere. You miss them when they are away for a while, you cry with them when something goes wrong in their lives, and you laugh when everything is going right. You end up having friends from different walks of lives, different cultural beliefs, and it's great. Makes you grow as a person and intellectually.
Q5: What is the worst part of the job?
As I mentioned above, it gets to be like a family atmosphere. And like all families, sometimes they fight. Playing the referee and breaking up the fight would be the worst part of the job.
Q6: Which are your favorite chat room games?
Trivia is a great one. Also the Name that Tunes.
Q7: What is the funniest thing that has ever happened whilst you have been in a chat room?
No one thing sticks out in my mind...it would have to be the daily typos and creation of new "werds" for the Bingo Lingo dictionary. The proverbial sticking your foot in your mouth scene, only it's more like misplaced those fingers on the old keyboard. Some of those typo's can be real doozers.
Q8: What makes a good Chat Host?
t takes more than one person to make a good Chat Host. It takes the entire team of Chat Hosts working together and communicating everything to each other. The ability to retain everything you hear in the chat rooms from one day to the next. The willingness to go that extra mile. The dedication in getting to know your players, and what is important to them. What they want, what they like. And a few dustbunnies to toss around helps too.
Q9: How would you like to see online bingo (as a whole) develop?
That's a tough one. I think BingoNet is a different style than most bingo sites. There are so many avenues that one can explore and expand upon. But really, what it goes back to is the players, and what they are looking for in an online bingo site. I feel it's important not to be like every other site out there, be unique, have something different and special to offer. Never stop growing and changing. There is always room for improvement, and you need to find your niche in that ever changing world.
Q10: Any other comments that you'd like to add about being a Chat Host?
I'm very fortunate to be a part of a great team. Belle, gonecountry, granprix...and the players that make the team as great as they are. Here's to them!!
All the team here at CMOTY would like to say a big 'TY' to VERA.
